  1. Crush the food by pestie and mortar

2. Add few dropa of pure water without chemicals (distilled)

How to test for starch?

A

You need iodine solution. It is orange-yellow liquid. If solution turns dark blue-black the food contains starch

How do you test for lipids?

A

To test for lipids in a solid piece of food you use a pice of filter paper
° rub some of the food onto piece of paper
° hold the paper up to light
If paper has gone translusent it contain lipids

A
We need  ethanol
°add few drops to food solution
° shake test tube and leave for 1 minute
° pour ethanol into test tube of water
If solution is cloudy food contains lipids

A

You need Benedict solution(BS), blue liquid
1. Add few drops of BS to food solution
2. Heat test tube in water bath
If solution turns orange-red, the food contais sugar

A

Use copper sulfate solution (CSS pale blue liquid) and sodium hydroxide (SH colourless liquid)
1. Add few drops of CSS to food solution
2. Add few drops of SH
If solution purple food contains protein
