Q

How to calculate wallpaper. needs using the square footage method

A
  1. Calculate the perimeter of the room in feet
  2. Multiply the perimeter by the height of the walls to be covered to get the total amount of area required in square feet
  3. add 20% to step 2 for waste
  4. calculate area of doors, windows, and other things that won’t be covered. 15 sf for one door or two windows
  5. subtract #4 from #3 to get total area of wallpaper needed
  6. divide area per roll (single roll is 36 sf and double roll is 72 sf)

16
Q

What information is needed to estimate the amount of carpet needed

A

area of space

carpet layout showing seam locations

17
Q

How to calculate carpet needs

A
  1. find total length needed (yds)
  2. Multiply by width of roll to get area (sq yd)
  3. round up
18
Q

What is the flooring radiant panel test?

A

This test measures a carpet’s ability to spread flame in a corridor or exit way when a fully developed fire is nearby. This test also measures the distance of any flame spread that occurs.

19
Q

What is the methanamine pill test?

A

This pass/fail test measures the size of the burn to determine flame resistance of textile floor coverings. — simply put: does it burn?

20
Q

What is the formula to determine drapery width?

A

Drapery width = window width + stacking space + return + overlap

21
Q

What is stacking space, return and overlap for drapery?

A

stacking space = width of opening (glass) divided by 3

return = space between wall and rod (usually 3-3.5”)

overlap = usually around 6”

22
Q

What width is drapery fabric usually sold in?

A

54”

23
Q

What is fabric buttoning, tufting, and channeling

A

buttoning - secures fabric to the cushion with lightly tensioned button

Tufting - similar to buttoning but button is pulled tightly against the cushion, resulting in a deeply folded surface

channeling - secures the fabric to the cushion in parallel rows

24
Q

What attributes does the BIFMA e3, Furniture Sustainability Standard consider when addressing sustainability?

A

material utilization, energy impacts, ecosystem health, social responsibility.
