Nerves, Responses and Behaviour Flashcards

1
Q

Q

How does binocular vision help with judging direction and distance?

A

With each eye positioned differently relative to an object, each eye gives slightly different spatial information. By comparing the signals from the two eyes, the brain can judge depth, speed, and distance.

Q

How does having two ears make an animal better at detecting the direction a sound is coming from?

A

With two ears opposite each other, we can listen to sounds from 360 degrees rather than 180 degrees. Binaural sound also provides our brains with more information.

Q

What does the CORNEA do in your eyes?

A

It bends light to help the eye focus and it also protects your eye from damage.

Q

What does the RETINA do in your eyes?

A

The retina contains millions of light-sensitive cells (rods and cones) and other nerve cells that receive and organize visual information.

Q

Where does the information from the RETINA go?

A

Your retina sends this information to your brain through your OPTIC NERVE enabling you to see.

Q

What does the OPTIC NERVE do in your eyes?

A

17
Q

What is MONOCULAR vision?

A

Ability to see with ONE eye.

18
Q

What is the VITREOUS GEL?

A

The vitreous gel is fluid that fills your eye. It’s full of tiny fibers that attach to your retina.

19
Q

What does the IRIS do in your eye?

A

It controls how much light is let into the eye and it also helps you see clearly.
