Q

Steps on how this all occcurs

A

1) carboxyl is removed from the pyruvate group (forms Co2) which causes 2 electrons to be released
2)remaining 3 carbon chains form a acetic group
3)acetic group bonds to coenzyme a (COA) forming Acetyl - COA

Q

why is Acetyl - COA important?

A

because proteins, lipids, carbs can become Acetyl COA when broken down for energy.

if low ATP, Acetyl COA will be broken down to get energy.

If high ATP, acetyl COA will make fats to store energy
