What is transnational organised crime?
When a crime is planned in, committed in and/or affects more than one state and if it involves long term planning of serious criminal activities by 3 or more people.

What are the two types of global criminal networks?
Established Mafias and Newer organised crime groups
What are Established Mafias?
Active for many years, organised around family and ethnic characteristics. e.g the Italian-American mafia
What is the Newer organised crime group?
These emerged after globalisation and collapse of Russian and Eastern European communist regimes. They link to eachother to form a network of transnational organised crime
How are local organisations important to global crime?
Without local networks the global network could not operate and vice versa
Why is global crime hard to control?
-Digital communication networks makes arrangements easier, less likely to be discovered.
-Lax governments in some counties
-Organised crime closely linked to corruption in government
-Fast Transport from one country to another
-Lack of attention
Why is global crime difficult for sociologists to research?
-Requires specialist skills
-Requires secondary stats not always available
-Primary research would be dangerous, dealing with most potful and onerous people in world
