Antezack et al. 2022:
Effect of root coverage on dentin hypersensitivity
Do the RC procedures reduce the incidence of DH associated with gingival recessions?
CAF or CAF+CTG or CAF + XCM
1- Meta-regression ==> - DH suppression associated with RC% and recession reduction
- Recession reduction + RC% –> DH Suppression
KTW gain or KT thickness gain –> No DH Suppression
- Sub-group analysis (based on RC technique)
CAF (72 pt), CAF+CTG (172 pt), CAF+XCM (104)
Effectiveness in the DH suppression:
CAF+CTG>CAF+XCM (73% Vs 61% SSD)
CAF+CTG = CAF (73% vs 71% NSSD)
CAF= CAF+XCM NSSD
Only SS superiority was seen in CAF+CTG versus CAF+XCM
Conclusions:
1- Overall🡪 70% suppression rate
2- Clinicians should be aware that 🡪 in 1/3 of the cases 🡪 DH might persist 🡪 consider other options or re-operations 🡪 if still there is room for
improvement in periodontal parameters
Only SS superiority was seen in CAF+CTG versus CAF+XCM
Peric et al: Tx of ginigvitis impact on systemic inflammation and oral health quality of life
AIM: compare the level of inflammatory markers, OHRQoL and gingival parameters in patients with generalized gingivitis, with and without oral hygiene habits.
Control: SupraG scaling + polishing
Test: SupraG scaling + polishing + OHI
RESULTS:
1- Number of pockets (<4, >4 and >5mm) decreased significantly 🡪 in Both groups
No SSD between groups
2. Full-mouth plaque score 🡪 decreased sig in both 🡪 SS more decrease in Test group (from 79% to 9% Versus from 79% to 72%)
3. Full-mouth bleeding score 🡪 decreased sig in both 🡪 SS more decrease in Test 🡪 from 47% to 5% versus from 52% to 38%)
4.Gingivitis resolution (FMBS<10%) 🡪 SSD higher decrease in test group 🡪 (88% resolution vs 7%)
- SS reduction of CRP and IL-6 in text vs. control
Quality of life parameters:
- No SSD between groups in 🡪 functional limitation, physical pain, psychological discomfort, physical disability, handicap
- SS higher improvement compared to control in test group 🡪 psychological disability
- SS improvement in test group 🡪 Physical pain, psychological discomfort and disability and social disability
Barootchi: Soft tissue phenotype modification and 10 yr margin stability: long analysis of 6 RCT
Most predictable factor to determine stability: 1.46 GT “ GT was the driving determinant that predicted significantly less relapse in the treatments, with sta- bility of the treated gingival margin obtained beyond values of 1.46 mm”
“obtaining a gingival thickness (GT) of 1.46 mm at 6 months in the presence of at least 1.5 mm keratinized tissue width (KTW) was shown to predict a stable level of the gingival margin over a period of 10 years.”
Santana: effect of adjuvant multispecies probiotic in tx of mucositis
debridement + Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001TM
Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc-37®
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp lactis HN019TM ==> change in BOP in PiM px
Test vs control ==> debridement with or w/ot probiotic gel
Results ==> reduced BOP at 12 and 24 weeks (p < .05). BOP was lower in the test group than in the control group.
