Natural selection
Natural selection is the process where organisms with beneficial traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing those traits to their offspring, leading to the gradual evolution of populations over time
Genetic Drift
andom fluctuations in the frequency of different gene variants (alleles) within a population over generations
Variation
the differences in characteristics (traits) among individuals within a population, or between different populations or species
Fitness
an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce in a given environment, ultimately contributing to its ability to pass on its genes to the next generation
Differential reproduction
the concept that not all individuals within a population reproduce at the same rate; some leave more offspring than others
Adaptation
the evolutionary process where an organism’s traits become better suited to its environment, increasing its chances of survival and reproduction
