Maxillary Lateral Incisors Flashcards

1
Q

Statistics

A

Quick- recall the stats about the Maxillary Central Incisor before moving on!

But just like on the Maxillary Central Incisor, the Mesial Distal Width is greater than the Facial Lingual Width

And that the crown is shorter than the root– in this case not Wayne Gretzky’s rule, but 99% times you’ll have one canal and 1 foramen

Anomalies

A

1) Peg Laterals
2) Congenitally missing laterals- third molars also fall in this category
3) Dens in Dente (tooth within a tooth)

Q

Facial Aspect

A

Proximal-Incisal Angles are more rounded!- note on the maxillary central the mesial incisal angle was not very round.

Depressions and Mamelons are not that pronounced

Crown slender and root is longer and skinnier than central. Note: Root isn’t technically longer than the central, that is just in comparison to how it relates to the crown!v

Peg laterals you are wider at cervical and taper towards incisal

Q

Lingual Aspect

A

Lingual Fossa is smaller, but more pronounced

Often Pitted- may have a distal developmental groove on the lingual side that approaches the fossa and forms a pit

Cingulum is centered

Surface root depression on the mesial side- thus making the distal more convex!

Q

Mesial and Distal

A

Very similar to those of the central, but the crown is shorter and the root is longer- sort of what was mentioned earlier

The labiolongual measurement is less than that of the central (mesiodistal width is still larger)

Curvature of CEJ is still greater- constant with norm.

Q

Mesial and Distal Root Info

A

Tapered cone with a blunt rounded apex.

Labial outline of the root is straight and the incisal edge is CENTERED on the tooth

Also, there is a developmental depression the mesial side of the root!

Q

Incisal Aspect

A

Mix of the Central and Canine

M-D is still larger than the F-L, outline is more round than central– recall what shape was the incisal aspect of the central incisor?, also the facial is more convex than central.

Cingulum is centered.
