Q

What is postpartum lochia?

A

Normal postpartum fluid in the uterus, it should be anechoic . Intraluminal hemorrhage appears uniformly echogenic in nature consistent with the appearance of peritoneal hemorrhage. The source of the hemorrhage is not major vessels, but rather endometrial and/or mural vasculature. Septic fluid appears flocculent and heterogenous, with gas production appearing as a hyperechoic interface in necrotizing metritis
