7
Q

Generic (Declarative) Memory

A

Largest Type, “general knowledge” : academics, facts, dates, #’s images, etc.
- hippocampus and LAD

Q

Procedural (Executive functioning) Memory

A

Most Difficult Type : Learned skills & operational processes, memories of step-by-step actions with sequential origanization, requires higher learning abilities (math problems, recipes, changing car oil, etc), typically requires “muscle memory”—- riding a bike, typing, etc.
-hippocampus, LAD, moter cortex & cerebellum

Q

Prospective Memory

A

organizational memory used to recall appointments, dates & tasks schedules to be completed in the future
-hippocampus and LAD

Q

Episodic Memory

A

Most Basic : memories of specific events & experiences, type of memory most influenced by sensory input and emotion, memories most commonly repressed & “unlocked” by physical sensation and/or emotional cues
-hippocampus

Q

Flashbulb Memory

A

A clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event; associated with intense emotion (trauma) that can be recalled with vivid detail, (Trauma activates the sympathetic nervous system and initiates the release of Acetylcholine)

Q

Serial Position Effect

A

Analysis of memory retrieval accuracy (or memory failure) of items presented in a list based on their position (location)

13
Q

Primacy Effect

A

Stimuli have the highest likelihood of retrieval (& accuracy) when located in the beginning of the list = Primacy Effect

Q

Recency Effect

A

16
Q

Conceptual Memory

A

Memory relative to the process of conceptual development (Natural, artificial & hiarchial concepts)…memories of schematic categories, memories of prototypes, memories of conceptual rules of assimilation

17
Q

Associative Memory

A

Memory retrieval based upon a stimulus’ relative similarity to other items within the schema… stimuli differences ofter delay or impair memory retrieval; bashful and doc (Sometimes stimuli differences can enhance memory retrieval; artichoke)

18
Q

Memory Summation

A

The minds natural tendency to draw conclusions & generalize the contents of a list or schema (contributes to false memory syndrome)

19
Q

False Memory Syndrome

A

caused by memories of a traumatic episode, most commonly childhood sexual abuse, which are objectively false, but in which the person strongly believes
