A

Prejudice is an attitude - which means that cognition (schema) is combined with emotion - in this case, often liking or disliking the individual

How are stereotypes formed?

A
  1. Illusory correlations - when we perceive a relationship between people and events, actions or behaviours, even when no such relationship exists
  2. Social Identity Theory - how social category salience can lead to the development of stereotypes of the “out-group.”

What are the possible effects of stereotypes?

  1. Stereotype threat - being at risk of confirming, as self-characteristic, a negative stereotype about one’s group
  2. Schema - schema may play a role in how children understand and learn about gender roles
