  1. goal directed behaviour which is blocked e.g. infant cant reach apple. 2. attention getting behaviour, child graps caregiver attention. 3. response waiting, child makes sure cargiver is paying attention. 4. directive gesture. child points to what it wants

A

human index finger pointing is biologically based and species specific Butterworth 2003. basically saying pointing is an evolutionary adaptation. evidence for this is monkey’s dont rlly point.
