Ownership definition
A large organisation that has interests spanning across a number of different business or industries
Ownership example
Walt Disney had business interests in several different industries. These industries are film, television, music and radio.
Vertical integration definition
A process whereby one company aquires another involved at a doctor level of the industry. The media institution will run under separate subsidiaries and production is passed down a chain of command
Horizontal integration definition.
A media company’s ownership of several businesses of the same value. A media company can own film production companies, record labels, television studios etc.
Diversification definition
The process of a company enlarging or varying it’s range of products or field operation.
Global production definition.
A film produced that is globally appealing.
Will have a genuine fan base in multiple countries across the globe.
Distribution definition.
Distribution can be described as the link between the producer and the audience.
Circulation definition.
The term refers to a number of copies of any given product, in this case film, which are out into distribution.
Uploads, screenings, DVDs, blu-ray, streaming, film festivals etc.
Digital convergence definition.
The process through which different media industries and forms merge with one another or move closer together.
This is mainly facilitated by digital technologies.
Regulation definition.
It is the act of controlling, directing and managing an activity.
Usually, the ruling is controlled by a higher authority.
Viral marketing definition.
A method of marketing whereby consumers are encouraged to share information about products or service.
Synergy definition.
The interactions or cooperation of two or more organisations who work together to increase their revenue respectfully.
Economic events definition.
This is where a new generation of console or gaming technology is released resulting in a huge incline of profit and market share.
PEGI definition.
Pan European Game Information (PEGI) is a European video game content rating system established to help European consumers make informed decisions when buying video games.
The sister informs gamers on age recommendations and content descriptors.
ESRB definition.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is an American self-regulatory organisation that assigns age and content ratings to consumer video games.
