Most fertile layer of soil, dark in colour because it contains the most humus

A
Found just below topsoil, has less humus, has more stones as it is closer to bedrock

A
A mixture if solid rock at its base and small rock pieces at the top

What is leaching?
A
Leaching occurs when there is a lot of rain. The water soaks through the soil washing all of the important minerals to the bottom

What are the effects of leaching?
A
Leaching deprives plants of important nutrients when is washes them from their roots

What is a hard pan?
A
A hard pan is when iron oxide minerals are washed from the topsoil causing them to group at the bottom
