deprotonation is just when another ligand takes hydrogen from a ligand within the complex and doesn’t replace it, but the ligand exchange reaction is when another ligand completer replaces the ligand in the complex ion, sometimes it might look like the reaction is ligand exchange so we need to be careful and look at the products formed
