Short Term Responses
Military Junta refused foreign aid due to political reasons for 6 days after landfall
Eventually asked UN for help but by then huge damage had been done
Only accepted help after 9 days but was extremely strict on what was allowed in, restricted to: Medicine, Food and basic supplies.
After negotiations between the Myanmar Authorities and South-East Asian Association, full aid was allowed on May 23rd. Three weeks after landfall
Long Term Responses
UK sent: $30 million
US sent: $47 million, including help from red cross
Thailand : $100,000 + 140 tonnes of tents
Myanmar never fully recovered
