It is indicated for cancer with adequate margins

All the ipsilateral breast tissue along with the nipple-areola complex, necessary skin and the level 1 and 2 axillary lymphnodes are removed

Explain the technique for a sentinal lymphnode biopsy

A

Radioactive tracer or blue dye is injected around the tumour

Tracer and dye will drain into the lymphatics and to the axillary nodes.

Gamma probe over axilla detect SLN

Incision into the axilla and locate the blue node
