Vasculature of the brain Flashcards
What is the postcentral gyrus’ function?
Primary Somatosensory cortex
What is the function of the Precentral gyrus?
Primary Motor Cortex
What is the origin of the Internal Carotid Artery?
Common Carotid artery
What is the course of the Internal Carotid Artery
Enters the cranium via the carotid canal of the
temporal bone
Lies within the cavernous sinus as the carotid syphon
Terminates lateral to the optic chiasm
*Dural Venous Sinuses
Endothelium-lined valveless channels whose walls are formed by the periosteal and meningeal layers of dura mater
Collect blood from the superficial and deep cerebral veins
Receive arachnoid granulations and absorbcerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
*Deep Cerebral veins
The deep cerebral veins drain the deep white matter and grey matter that surround the basal cisterns and ventricular system.
