Lac operon Flashcards

1
Q

What happens when no lactose is present?

A

1.The lac repressor bounds to the operator so the RNA polymerase cant do anything so NO TRANSCIPTION HAPPENS

Q

What happens when lactose is present?

A
  1. The allolactose are present so they bind to the lac repressor so it can leave the operator
  2. Allowing RNA polymerase to do its role of transcribing genes so lactose is metabolised.

Q

What happens when there is no glucose and lactose is present

A

1.cAMP binds to the Catabolite activator proteins which binds to the CAP site making more transcription happen
2.The allolactose are present so they bind to the lac repressor so it can leave the operator as the lactose is present

Q

What happens when glucose and lactose are present?

A
  1. Glucose is present so low cAMP so the CAP cant bind to the CAP site resulting in LESS TRANSCIPTION
2.The allolactose are present so they bind to the lac repressor so it can leave the operator as the lactose is present
