A

The teeth and saliva in the mouth breakdown the food into smaller pieces . Enzymes in the saliva break down the down the starch.

A

Once you swallow the food travels down the oesophagus, with the help of the muscles pushing on it, and ends up in the stomach.

How does the stomach contribute

A

The food is churned in the stomach and acids and enzyme rich juices are released to break down the food down further creating a substance called chyme.

A

In the small intestine , bile is mixed with the chyme to provide the correct ph for the enzymes and to emulsify the fats.Useful nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream.
