Mass Flow Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the processes involved in transport of sugars in plant stems

A

Sucrose is actively transported into the phloem by companion cells. This lowers water potential in phloem and water enters by osmosis, producing high hydrostatic pressure. Mass flow towards sink, where the sugars are removed
