W3: Classical Conditioning Flashcards

1
Q

Classical conditioning

A
  • Animals come to respond to a previously neutral stimulus that has been paired with another stimulus (the CS) that elicits a reflexive, automatic response
  • After repeated pairing with the UCS, which elicits an automatic, reflexive response (UCR) from the organism the CS comes to elicit a conditioned response (CR)

Q

Higher - order conditioning

A

When organisms develop classically conditioned responses to CSs associated with the original CS

e.g. conditioned do to salivate (CR) to a tone (CS), pair the tone with a circle, dog will eventually salivate to both circle and tone
