DP2 - The Forebrain Flashcards
Location and Involvement
-Largest part of brain (the rest of it)
-Regulates complex cognitive processes such as learning memory, emotion and personality
3 structures
-Hypothalamus
-Thalamus
-Cerebrum
Hypothalamus
-Influences behaviours associated with basic biological needs (hunger, thirst, sleep)
-Regulates the release of hormones from various glands in the body (through its control of the Pituitary Gland)
Thalamus
-Filters all senses. (Except smell (processed through the thalamus.))
-Regulate arousal through the reticular formation. Damage to thalamus results in lowered arousal, ranging from lethargy to coma.
Cerebrum
-Consist of the outer cerebral cortex and is responsible for almost everything we consciously think, feel and do.
