Define nature of hereditary and environmental factors
The interactive nature of hereditary and environmental factors on a person’s psychological development
Define development
Changes that occur over time.
Lifespan development - from birth through to and including old age.
Physical development
Changes in the body and it’s various systems (bones, muscles, hormones etc)
Social development
Changes in an individual’s relationships with other people and their skill in interacting with others
Cognitive development
Changes in an individual’s mental abilities, such as reasoning, problem solving, learning, memory, language etc.
Emotional development
Changes in how an individual experiences different feeling and how these feelings are expressed, interpreted and delt with.
Psychological development
Changes associated with social, cognitive and emotional development including mental processes that occur with the individual and therefore not directly observable or measurable - must be relatively permanent or ‘lasting’.
Biological factors
Include genetics
Psychological factors
include self-concept and how we take in information
Social factors
include interactions with others
Nature
The inborn, inherited factors gained genetically from biological parents
Nurture
Refers to the environmental or external conditions that effect an individual’s development. These are the experiences we have or the stimuli we are exposed to throughout our lifespan.
