Q

You exceed the mast moment. You hear a aural tone and a red LIMIT light, but it goes away when normal parameters are met. What does this mean and what should you do?

A

You’ve exceeded 64%, but not 77%. You may continue training and return back to basefield. You must write up “Mast Moment LIMIT illuminated during flight.” You do not need to include the number values listed on the VEMD provided you did not exceed 90%.

Q

You’ve exceeded the mast moment. You receive an aural tone, red box LIMIT and the MM EXCEED caution on the CAD both stay on. What does this mean and what should you do?

A

77% was exceeded. Remain in place, unless in flight, current location is unsafe, and/or aircrew is confident they did not exceed 90%; then reposition the aircraft to level ground or parking. Once safely on the ground declare a precautionary landing.

On shutdown, if the mast moment did exceed 90%, note the value and time above 90% and forward that information to ATC and Unit Safety Officer. Take further instruction from the Chain of Command.
