Digital revolution is the idea that over recent years, there has been rapid advances in technology. Carter
argues that we have moved from an industrial society to a society based on digital communication. Due to
the spread of digital communications, information can be accessed by everyone.
For example, daily news can now be accessed on websites rather than on traditional newspaper stands.
Digital communication has lead to people communicating easily in more dynamic ways, increasing their
social capital. The media is also new through new platforms, such as TikTok which resurfaced in 2020
and used in various ways to help people manage their lives.
The increase of digital technology has meant people can now form relationships online instead of
communicating face to face. People now rely on the internet for maintaining relationships, as well as
applying for jobs such as LinkedIn. This means unless a person as access to digital forms of
communication, they’re at a disadvantage. Those who are on social networks are more likely to have high
employability status, and leads to a stronger social capital
