Q

Advantages and disadvantages of electric cars over petrol/diesel

A

Advantages
- No greenhouse gas emissions
- Saves money on the cost of fuel
- Higher acceleration rate
Disadvantages
- More expensive
- Safety hazard - are dangerous because they aren’t very loud
- Spends a long time charging

Q

The UK Government has proposed to decarbonise the power sector by 2025. Describe what is meant by the ‘decarbonisation’ of the power sector.
Explain what this means.

A
  • Decarbonisation means reducing fossil fuel-based power stations (1)
  • This also leads to preventing carbon-based emissions.
  • It also means to embed more carbon capture and storage [CCS] in electricity generation
  • The aim is for emissions to reach ‘net zero’ by 2050
  • increase the amount of renewable energy sources for electrical generation.
