pt. counseling for isotretinoin

A
  • avoid in pregnancy
  • all contain soybean oil: if allergic to peanuts, do not take isotretinoin
  • take WITH food
  • may cause phototoxic reactions
  • do not donate blood until off isotretinoin for at least 30 days
  • causes hypertriglyceridemia, cheilitis, epistaxis, xeroderma: all approximately 90%
  • use cautiously in pts. with psychiatric disorders

  • ind. for severe acne unresponsive to other Tx
  • 10mg, 20mg, 40mg BID: usually taken for about 3 months
  • extremely teratogenic*
