what is cognitive dissonance?

A

the psychological tension that happens when our thoughts, feelings and behaviour do not align with eachother.

Eg. We think to sleep early because it is good for us, but our behaviour is sleeping late.

A

the unconsious tendices to interpret info that is netiher rational or based on objective reality. Instead of following logic people distort information to think of it in a way that is more preferable to them.

what is confirmation biases?

A

the tendency to search for and accept info that supports our prior beliefs or behviours.

Eg. You refuse to vaccinate because you think its not safe despite scientifict research and many positive feed back. So you go your way to find info even just one to support your views and values.

what is actor observer bias?

A

the tendency to attribute our own actions to external excuses and internal excuses to other people. Even if it was the same action.

Eg. You spill your coffee and say ‘gee that mug was slippery’ whereas previously someone else dropped the coffee and you blamed it on their clumsiness and being unprofessional.

what is self serving bias?

A

the tendancy to attribute positive success to our internal charcater and our failures to external factors.

Eg. You play soccer and you score the winning goal and you believe the team won only because of you (internal) But in the next game you missed the winning goal and the team loses but you blame the weather (external)

A

the tendancy to overestimate how much people share and like the same ideas as us.

Eg. You are passionate about saving the enviorment but you don’t believe you can just change the enviorment since your only one person but you believe all other young people can help and share your passion and work towards the same goal.

what is the halo effect?

A

for the impression we form about one quality about someone to influence our overall beliefs about them.

Eg. You meet someone for the first time on a date and they are your ideal type! Based off physical appearence but then you find out about their criminal history yet you still go on a date with them because there your ideal type physically.
