23
Q

How do the LP & HP Control Valve assemblies work during MFWP Turbine?

A

1.)LP control valves supplies steam to start spinning turbine, but doesn’t have enough hot reheat steam to get turbine up to speed
2.)As LP Control Valve continues to open, it’ll start lifting HP Control Valve letting steam from Main Steam
3.)As hot reheat steam increases LP Steam will be able to drive turbine, LP Control Valve will start closing HP Control Valve

A

‘B’ MFWP Turbine has a connection to insert LP Nitrogen

40
Q

Why is LP Nitrogen added to ‘B’ MFWP Turbine Exhaust ?

What do the Rotor & Bucket Wheels do for the MFWP Turbine ?

A

-Absorbs thermodynamic & kinetic energy & transform into mechanical energy

42
Q

What kind of shaft packing does the MFWP Turbine rotor have ?

A

Have labyrinth seals are used each end of Turbine Rotor to minimize leakage out of turbine casing

43
Q

Why is gland sealing steam used for the MFWP Turbine ?

A

Helps prevent steam leakage out of turbine casing & prevents air from getting in

44
Q

What does the Feedwater Pump Turbine Gear provide ?

A

Provides low speed turning of Turbine Rotor for:
-Cooling down turbine before complete shutdown
-Prestart rotation of rotor for steam is admitted

45
Q

What speed will the turning gear disengage ?

A

If rotor speed raises above 4rpm then turning gear will disengage

46
Q

What happens if Feedwater Pump/Turbine bearing oil pressure drops while turning heat is operating ?

A

-Pressure switches that’ll turn off turning gear during oil bearing pressure drop
-Pressure switches will prevent starting turning gear during low oil pressure to heating

47
Q

Where can the turning gear be operated from ?

A

-Normally operated from control room
-Can be operated locally, green indicating light on local panel shows if turning gear is in operation

48
Q

What does the FWPT Thrust Bearing Wear Device do ?

A

Will trip turbine if thrust bearing get to worn out

49
Q

What does the 3-key switch installed at local turbine panel do?

A

-Has one key that allows testing of Thrust Bearing wear trips during normal operation
-Key is normally in Thrust Wear Device switch

50
Q

What does he Thrust Wear Device Test Switch do ?

A

Has isolate/normal/ test , can only remove key if in test position & can then be used on two other thrust bearings

51
Q

How do the three positions on the Thrust Wear Device Test Switch work ?

A

ISOLATE- energizes solenoid valve that’ll isolate FWPT Thrust Wear Trip device
TEST-Enables active & inactive thrust wear test switches & turn on green lights
NORMAL-Enables two Thrust Wear Trip Devices

52
Q

How does the two position Active Thrust Wear Test Switch work ?

A

Key is removable in normal position only
-Normal position does nothing
-Test will test active thrust west device (Verified by green light on local panel)

53
Q

How does the Inactive Thrust Wear Test Switch work ?

A

Key is removable in normal position only
-Normal position does nothing
-Test position tests inactive thrust west device (Verified by green light on local panel)

54
Q

What does the Emergency (Overspeed) Governor do ?

A

During overspeed, emergency Governor will actuate tripping mechanism that’ll trip the stop valves & control valves closed to stop steam

55
Q

How does the Emergency(Overspeed) Governor work ?

A

-Uses centrifugal force to overcome spring force to unseat plunger
-When plunger throws out it’ll hit emergency trip mechanism & trip the turbine

56
Q

When is the Emergency (Overspeed) Governor tested ?

A

Tested during outage & trips at 110%overspeed

57
Q

What does the Lockout & Exerciser Switch(UNLOCK/LOCKOUT) do ?

59
Q

What does the Local Overspeed Trip Test Pushbutton do ? What indications do we have that overspeed trip signal worked ?

A

-When lockout & exerciser switch is in LOCKOUT, this button is pushed to activate overspeed exerciser to cause turbine trip signal
-A red “trip exercised” light will come on when trio mechanism is in position

60
Q

Why must there be caution when holding lockout position?

A

If switch goes back to UNLOCKED position while TRIP EXERCISED light is on the pump will actually trip

61
Q

How does loss of NK affect MFWP Turbine Operation ?

A

-Will lose ability to trip pump/turbine from control room
-Will have to trip pump locally at Turbine front standard

62
Q

How does loss of NN affect the operations of MFWP Turbine during operation ?

A

-Will cause MFWP Turbine control valve to drift close
-Will lose MFWP,but won’t cause an actual trip of the pump. Which then won’t cause a reactor power cutback

63
Q

What happens if you lose main steam, while you have insufficient ‘D’MSR hot reheat ?

A

MFWP will slow down causing low SG water level

64
Q

What happens if you just lose ‘D’ MSR Hot Reheat ?

A

You will have to run on main steam supplying the MFWP Turbine

65
Q

What happens to MFWP Turbine if you lose Feedwater Control system ?

A

Won’t be able to control pump speed, which could lead to reactor trip
