Arthrology: Ligaments of Foot and Ankle Flashcards
Talocrural fibrous capsule
attachments- from the borders of the articular surfaces of tibia & malleoli to the margins of the trochlear surface of the talus
Medial collateral (deltoid)
attachments- from the medial malleolus to the talus, navicular & sustentaculum tali of the calcaneus
function- stabilizes joint & resists forced eversion
Posterior talofibular
Attachments- malleolar fossa of the fibula to the lateral tubercle of the talus
Function – restrict talocrural inversion
Calcaneofibular
Attachments – tip of the lateral malleolus to the lateral surface of the calcaneus
Function – resist calcaneal/subtalar inversion
Anterior talofibular
Attachments - anterior lateral malleolus of the fibula to the neck of the talus
Function – resist talocrural inversion and resist anterior translation of the talus
Long plantar
attachments- from the plantar surface of the calcaneus & cuboid to the plantar surface of the bases of the metatarsals
Plantar calcaneocuboid
(aka “short plantar lig.”)
attachments- from calcaneus to the plantar surface of the cuboid
Plantar calcaneonavicular
(aka “spring lig.”)
attachments- from the anterior margin of the sustentaculum tali to the plantar surface of the navicular
function- supports the medial longitudinal arch of the foot
