Open packed position
55 deg ABD, 30 deg horiz ADD
Close packed position
End range ABD and ER
Static stabilizers
Labrum
Joint capsule
- ant/inf portions most thick
GH ligaments
Inferior GH ligament complex
Dynamic stabilizers
Rotator cuff
Deltoid
- large stabilizer in all positions
Innervation
Axillary n.
Suprascapular n.
Lateral pectoral n.
Subacromial “impingement”
Repeated compression of RCT, long head of biceps, subacromial bursa
Causes:
- RCT dysfunction
- scapular positioning
- shape of acromion
- GH joint hypo/hypermobility
Tendonitis
Tendons intimate with capsule
Rarely isolated to one tendon
