What can cause an increase in the impulse?

A

A larger impulse will be created by increasing the range of motion which ensures maximum force is applied but over a short period of time. If an athlete increases the duration of contact with the object through the help of a wide stance, this will increase the impulse but the force generated will be low.

What is an example of force absorption?

A

When a cricket ball is hit toward a fielder they wish to stop the ball and take the momentum back to zero. When stopping a force we must increase the time component so we can reduce the peak force.
