what is a digestive system
a group of organs used to break down food
what happens during digestion
food starts of as large molecules then the digestive system breaks them down into smaller molecules of nutrients that are absorbed into the bloodstream
what happens in the stomach
food is mixed with digestive juices and acids
what happens in the small intestine
digestive juices from the liver and pancreas are added and digestion completed
small molecules nutrients pass through the intestine wall into the bloodstream
what happens in the large intestine
undigested food reaches the large intestine
it is turned into feces
travels trough till reaches the anus
how is the small intestine adapted to its function
villi - stick out
large surface area
contain blood capillaries
thin cell walls
