1.4 energy concepts Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the work equation for constant force?
W = F × x
What is the work equation for angled forces?
W = F × x × cos(θ)
What is the principle of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.
What is Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE)?
Type of potential energy that increases when an object’s height increases.
GPE = m × g × ∆h.
What is Elastic Potential Energy (EPE)?
Energy stored when an object is stretched apart but can spring back. EPE = 1/2 kx².
What is Kinetic Energy (KE)?
Energy of motion.
KE = 1/2 mv².
What is the power equation in terms of energy?
P = energy transferred / time.
What are dissipative forces?
Forces reducing system efficiency, like friction.
What is the effect of friction on energy?
Reduces kinetic energy, generates heat.
How is energy efficiency calculated?
Efficiency = (useful energy transfer / total input) × 100.
What is the spring constant (k)?
Stiffness of spring, force per unit extension.
