14 Gases Flashcards
(6 cards)
When do gasses occur
When molecules/atoms gain kinetic energy to overcome all intermolecular forces.
What happens to gases when enclosed in a container
Gasses will diffuse to fill up the entire volume of a container. Gases will also create pressure when colliding with the container walls but won’t lose energy when doing so (elastic).

What forces effect gasses
None, they have too much energy to form attractive or repulsive forces
Kinetic energy and kelvin temperature relationship in gases
Kinetic energy is directly proportional to the Kelvin temperature of the Sample.
What are ideal gases
Hypothetical Gases with:
- no intermolecular forces
- molecules don’t occupy any volume
- collisions are perfectly elastic (no energy lost when colliding)
Real gases
non-hypothetical where molecules occupy space and interact.
