How is the Bible the word of God?
The writers of the Bible were guided by the Holy Spirit(God’s presence in the world guiding people to know the will of God)
The Bible contains the word of God given by the prophets, people inspired by God who passed on his word and message and saw their task as encouraging people to stay faithful to God.
The Bible tells of the actions and teachings of Jesus in the Gospels and through Jesus God speaks directly toall people.
The Bible contains the writings of the apostles in the Epistles,who were Jesus’s closest followers and were filled with the Holy Spirit, inspiring them to preach God’s word. These were written for Christians to apply Jesus’s teachings in their everyday lives and the apostles were early witnesses to Jesus’s life.
The Magisterium
The teaching authority of the Catholic Church who guide Catholics in their interpretation of the Bible, who are guided by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is believed to be constantly working in the Catholic Church and it was with the guidance of the Holy Spirit that the Church decided which books were to be accepted as part of the Bible.The Holy Spirit speaks through the magisterium, who make the word of God relevant to the modern world and apply the eternal truths from God to present day needs,
Purpose of the Bible
The Bible is the word of God; reveals God to humans and teaches them about God’s intentions for humanity. God speaks through the words for people to listen and act on them.
Holy Spirit
The Third Person of the Trinity whom Christians believe is the inspiring presence of God in the world
