Q

Why is global shift occurring?

A

markets are expanding in NEEs as their populations grow, and get wealthier. Extremely poor LICs in the past have now become wealthier due to tourism (Kenya), or are becoming the face of production

16
Q

How has deindustrialisation and global shift changed the patterns of production?

A
  • fewer products made in HICs
  • move to NEEs as cheaper
  • allows sector shift in poorer countries
  • more consumption in NEEs yet still predominantly HICs
17
Q

Give an example of deindustrialisation?

A

car manufacturing industry moving out of Detroit

18
Q

How might patterns of production and consumption change in the future?

A
  • likely to increase production in LICs
  • consumption increase in NEEs (growing population)
  • China investing in Africa
19
Q

How might deindustrialisation impact Sense of Place?

A
  • could impact negatively, as unemployment –> high crime rates (eg Detroit)
  • could positively impact as cheaper products for consumers, yet could increase sense of placelessness
