What was the April Theses?

A

Lenin recognised that Russia’s problems could be summed up as ‘peace, land, bread’. The Bolsheviks for the first time were trying to appeal to the majority fo the Russian people.

What were the July Days?

A

The provisional government launched an attack on the Austro-Hungary army in June and this was a disaster with mass desertions and a break down of army discipline.

The Kadets resigned from government and Lenin and the Bolsheviks encouraged soldiers and sailors to seize control. This they nearly managed with 70,000 protestors surrounding the Tauride Palace in Petrograd.

What was Trotsky’s role?

A

Trotsky was the chair of the Petrograd Soviet and decided to join the Bolsheviks from the Mensheviks. He helped from the MRC with the plan that they would take power from the Provisional Government.

Kornilov

A

24th August, Kornilov ordered troops to close down the Petrograd soviet.

Kerensky called on the Petrograd soviet to defend the city and allowed them to armed the red guard and in return he freed the Bolshevik prisoners arrested in the July Days.

He was arrested on the 1st September 1917.

Kerensky

A

Russian revolutionary who led the provisional government for a short time. He continued Russia’s participation in WW1 alienating the government from the people and making him an unpopular figure.
