The consolidation of the one-party state key points

A

Sovnarkom continued it’s decrees in the first months of 1918 and helped to define the new one party state.<div><br></br></div><div>In January 1918 workers were put in charge of the railways. </div><div><br></br></div><div>The old red guards were demobilized and a new red army of workers and peasants were forced to protect the regime, Trotsky was placed at the head of this army in March 1918, the same time the capital was moved to Moscow, to be more central.</div><div><br></br></div><div>Decrees nationalized industry and abolished land ownership.</div>

Describe the 1918 constitution

A

Proclaimed in July 1918<div><br></br></div><div>The vote was reserved for the ‘toiling masses’. Members of the former ‘exploiting classes,’ were excluded from holding public office.</div><div><br></br></div><div>The structure was centralized and the real focus of power was the party.</div><div><br></br></div><div>The congress was to meet at intervals- so executive authority remained in the hands of Sovnarkom.</div>

Name some of the key points surrounding the treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

A

Signed on the 3rd of March 1918 between Germany and Russia.<div><br></br></div><div>Russia lost many countries including the Ukraine, Finland and Poland.</div><div><br></br></div><div>Losses amounted to 62 million people and 2 million square kilometers of land, including the area which produced almost a third of Russia’s agricultural produce.</div><div><br></br></div><div>Lenin called it a ‘robber peace,’ but argued that Russia had to accept the ‘naked truth.’</div>
