A
The practice of employing one more than the minimum required number of systems so that in the event of a planned or unplanned outage of one of the systems, the other systems will continue functioning and provide service. This term usually ap- plies to HVAC, UPS, and electric generators. See also heating, ventilation, and air condi- tioning (HVAC); uninterruptible power supply (UPS); and electric generator.
