16
Q

What is a motor neurone?

A

-connect CNS to effectors

17
Q

What is the charge of a resting neurone?

A

-negative

18
Q

What is the charge of an activated neurone?

A

-positive activated by stimulus - action potential - impulse travels down

19
Q

What is synaptic transmission?

A

-neurones communicating in groups

20
Q

Method of synaptic transmission

A
  1. Action potential arrives at membrane of presynaptic neurone = depolarisation
  2. Increased conc of calcium causes vesicles to move to membrane and release neurotransmitters into synapse
  3. NT diffuses across cleft and binds to receptor on surface of PST neurone
  4. Transmitted along axon or reuptaken
21
Q

What is excitation?

A

-NT increase PD across PST membrane
-triggers opening of more Na channels

22
Q

What is inhibition?

A

-reduces PD across PST membrane through closure of Na channels

23
Q

What is summation?

A

-whether a NT fires or not
