How does HZO present?

• Vesicular rash around the eye
• Hutchinson’s sign: Rash on the tip or side of the nose: nasocilliary involvement

How is HZO managed?

Answer 3

• Oral antiviral therapy for 7-10 days
• Should be started within 72 hours of symptom onset
• Topical corticosteroids may be used to treat any secondary inflammation

What are complications of HZO?

• Ocular: conjunctivitis, keratitis, episcleritis, anterior uveitis
• Ptosis
