ADVISES QM OF ALL NON-RADIO COMMUNICATIONS TO EXECUTE CURRENT OR FUTURE EVOLUTIONS AND OPERATIONS INVOLVING FLAG SIGNALLING
CIC involvement with Radio Central
KEEPS COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER UPDATED TO ENSURE ALL COMMUNICATION CONNECTIVITY AND CIRCUIT CHANGES ARE MAINTAINED AS REQUIRED PER SHIP/OPAREA COMMS PLAN
CIC involvement with Weapons Stations
KEEPS ALL GUNNERY WATCH STATIONS INFORMED OF RANGE CLEARANCES AND IS RESPONSIBLE TO THE CO FOR FINAL GREEN RANGE IMPACTS OR LIMITERS
CIC involvement with Lookouts
COMMUNICATES WITH ALL ASSIGNED LOOKOUT STATIONS AND PERFORMS DUTIES PER THE SHIP’S LOOKOUT DIRECTIONS AND UPDATES LOOKOUTS TO KEEP TRACK OF ALL AVAILABLE/VISIBLE CONTACTS, NAV HAZARDS AND OBJECTS.
CIC Primary Mission
- GATHERING:
TO ATTAIN INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE OR BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS BY ANY AND ALL MEANS. - PROCESSING:
TO APPRAISE OR SORT THROUGH GATHERED INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE OR BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS. - DISPLAY:
TO PLACE PROCESSED INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE OR BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS ON A SCREEN, CHART OR SYSTEM AS A VISUAL REPRESENTATION. - EVALUATION:
TO CALCULATE OR DECIDE A PLAN OF ACTION BASED ON THE GATHERED, PROCESSED AND DISPLAYED INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE OR BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS. - DISSEMINATION:
DISPERSE OR TRANSMIT THAT EVALUATED INTELLIGENCE OR BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS TO NECESSARY UNITS.
CIC Secondary Mission
- CONTROL AND ASSIST: PROVIDE TACTICAL DIRECTION/SUPPORT AND FORCEFUL BACKUP TO THE BRIDGE, CSMC, CCS AND OTHER US/NATO FORCES WE ARE OPERATING WITH.
AIR CONTROLLERS:
ANTI- SUBMARINE/ANTI-SURFACE WARFARE TACTICAL AIRCONTROLLER (ASTAC)
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TACTICAL EMPLOYMENT AND SAFETY OF FLIGHT OF LAMPS MK III HELICOPTERS IN THE USW AND ASST MODES, AND OTHER AIR ASSETS ASSIGNED FOR SUW/USW.
AIR CONTROLLERS:
b. AIR INTERCEPT CONTROLLER (AIC)
PROVIDES POSITIVE OR ADVISORY CONTROL TO MITSCHER ASSIGNED AIRCRAFT IN SUPPORT OF TRAINING EXERCISES AND TACTICAL OPERATIONS INVOLVING FIGHTER AIRCRAFT.
Caps and Lims of Radars:
AN/SPY-1
SPY IS THE PRIMARY AIR SEARCH AND THE ONLY 3-D RADAR ABOARD AEGIS SHIPS.
IN NOMINAL SEARCH ENVELOPE SURROUNDS THE SHIP, 360 DEGREES IN AZIMUTH, OUT BEYOND 200 MILES, AND UP ABOVE 100,000 FEET IN ALTITUDE.
Caps and Lims of Radars:
AN/SPS-67
PRIMARY SURFACE/LOW SLOW FLYER SEARCH RADAR. THE AN/SPS-67 IS THE PRINCIPAL SURFACE SEARCH RADAR FOR DDG-51 CLASS DESTROYERS CONTROLLED FROM CIC.
IT IS A TWO-DIMENSIONAL G-BAND RADAR THAT DETECTS AND TRACKS SURFACE TARGETS AND LOW-FLYING AIRCRAFT AT RANGES FROM 75 YARDS OUT TO 100 NM. IT UTLIZES SHORT, MEDIUM AND LONG PULSE SETTINGS AND TWO MODES OF OPERATION:
a. NAVIGATION MODE: THE NAVIGATION MODE IS INTENDED FOR USE WHEN PILOTING NEAR LAND, WHERE RANGE ACCURACY IS ESSENTIAL TO NAVIGATIONAL ACCURACY AND IS NORMALLY SET TO 30 RPM.
b. SEARCH MODE: A SEARCH MODE IS EMPLOYED FOR NORMAL SURFACE SEARCH AND TRACKING. THIS MODE PROVIDES EXTENDED RANGE WITH SOME SACRIFICE IN ACCURACY AND IS NORMALLY SET TO 15 RPM.
Caps and Lims of Radars:
AN/SPS-73
AN AUXILIARY SURFACE SEARCH RADAR USED FOR NAVIGATION AND PILOTING. IT HAS A RANGE FROM 20 YARDS OUT TO 64 MILES. IT IS CONTROLLED FROM THE PILOT HOUSE.
Data Links and Networks:
UHF/HF LINK 11
LINK 11 IS THE EXCHANGE OF NEAR REAL-TIME TACTICAL DATA AMONG UNITS OF THE FORCE THAT SUPPORTS THE EXCHANGE OF AIR, SURFACE, AND SUB-SURFACE SURVEILLANCE INFORMATION, WEAPON CONTROL, INTELLIGENCE AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE INFORMATION.
LINK 11 IS HALF DUPLEX AND EMPLOYS NETTED COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES USING STANDARD MESSAGE FORMAT
Data Links and Networks:
UHF LINK 16
LINK 16 TERMINAL IMPLEMENTS THE TACTICAL DIGITAL INFORMATION LINK-J (LINK-16) MESSAGE STANDARD.
ITS ARCHITECTURE PROVIDES A COMMON COMMUNICATIONS NET TO A LARGE COMMUNITY OF AIRBORNE AND SURFACE ELEMENTS WITHIN LINE-OF-SIGHT (LOS).
BY USING ONE OR MORE MEMBERS OF THE NET AS RELAYS, THE NET CAN BE EXTENDED TO PLATFORMS BEYOND LINE-OF-SIGHT, THUS ANY TERMINAL CAN BE EMPLOYED AS A RELAY.
THE SYSTEM OPERATES ON A TIME SLOT BASIS AND IS CAPABLE OF TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING INFORMATION ON MULTIPLE NETS.
Data Links and Networks:
SATELLITE TADIL J
UHF SATCOM THAT OFFERS THE POTENTIAL TO EXTEND THE LINK-16 NETWORK TO SHIPS THAT ARE OUT OF LOS, EXTENDING THE RANGE-LIMITED TACTICAL NETWORKS TO BEYOND LOS WHILE REDUCING THEIR DEPENDENCE UPON RELAY PLATFORMS AND IS THE SECONDARY BMD LINK.
