Q

Know the cascade of events that cause an animal to have estrous cycles in Long days.

A

-More light stimulates excites retinal neurons
-excites suprachiasmatic nucleus
-Neurons from hypothalamus inhibit superior cervical ganglion
-Superior cervical ganglion inhibits pineal gland
-Pineal gland: low norepinephrine secretion and low melatonin release
-RFRP neuron increases RFRP-3
-kiss neurons stimulated (hypothalamus)
-high kiss-10 (hypothalamus)
-increase GnRH (pituitary)
-increase FSH + LH (pituitary)

A

-Less light inhibits excites retinal neurons
-inhibits suprachiasmatic nucleus
-Neurons from hypothalamus excite superior cervical ganglion
-Superior cervical ganglion excites pineal gland
-Pineal gland: increase norepinephrine secretion and increase melatonin release
-RFRP neuron decreases RFRP-3
-kiss neurons decreased (hypothalamus)
