Position of York in 1456 (bad)

A
  • weakened position - birth of Ed, Henry comes out of stupor = end to first protectorate
  • Margaret convinced York wanted the crown, set out to destroy him = takes back govt. offices 1456
  • second protectorate ends in 1456 - no successful + act of resumption’s don’t go through due to to lack of noble support
  • Somerset released from the tower - all charges against him dropped

Position of York in 1456 (good things)

A
  • parliamentary pardon - formally blamed St Albans on Somerset + his biggest obstacle is dead
  • had two protectorates leading up to 1456 - control over H6
  • constable 1455
  • committed allies = Warwick + Salisbury - doesn’t get much support from other nobles though….
