1.4.6 - Avogadro's Law Flashcards
(7 cards)
What does avogadro’s law state for gases?
- gases are tiny particles with relatively large spaces between them
- gases are in constant random motion
- particles (ideally) do not interact with each other (elastic collision)
- gas particles have no force of attraction to each other
What does STP stand for?
standard temperature and pressure
What does SATP stand for?
standard ambient temperature and pressure
what did Avogadro explain by relative volume to moles (volume is proportional to moles)?
the volume of gases, reactants and products, at constant temperature and pressure are whole number ratios of eachother
In basic terms, what does it mean that volume is proportional to moles?
equal volumes of gas at the same temperature and pressure will contain equal number of moles
When does mole ratio being equal to volume ratio apply?
only to gases and temperature and pressure are constant during the reaction
What does having excess reactants mean?
you have more than enough to react completely with the other reactants
