A

morcars earldom reduced in size so less money. williams geld tax was resented. castles were resented, castles means less houses.MIGHT CHANGE THISSSSSSSSSS

A

edwin + morcar fled williams court and went to scotland.william then took his forces north and built catsles in warwick, when william came E+M surrendered.
this show of strength convinced others rebellion was fuitile. williams castles-building was effective at keeping control. when it seemed like william might imprison them E+M fled in 1071

what happened in edgar aethlings revolt

A

william went up north stopped the rebellion, left but then the rebellion started up again.
the danes allied with edgar but lost because of poor unity between them,william was more prepared for battle, he was also quick at getting his army together
after william built castles and choose a new earl.
william bribed the danes to leave england.

what happened in hereward the wakes rebelion. and aftermath

A

hereward forms allaince with danes. their base was the fens (swamp area)- a guerrilla warefare
william made a wooden ramp to cross the island it didnt work but he set fire to fens and with the help of anglo monks that betray hereward and a witch hereward dies.

A

Waltheof informed archbishop Lanfranc (regeant), Franc got soldiers to search for the rebels and sent letter to Roger not to do anything it didnt work.
Normans+Anglos stopped Ralph from leaving his earldom, Bishop Wulfstan stopped Roger from moving.
William returned and Danes arrived too late to help with the revolt.

norman - king owned all land. people payed tax, called relief. when landholder died the heir had to show loyalty to the king before getting land back
people owned their own land
