what is a questionnaire?
A set of written questions, closed or open, used to assess a person’s thoughts or experiences.
what is a structured interview?
a live encounter (face to face or phone) where the interviewer asks questions to assess the interviewee’s thoughts and experiences.
what is an unstructured interview?
A live encounter where the interviewer asks questions which may develop as the interview goes on.
(no structure or set of questions)
what is the advantage of a questionnaire over an interview?
-it is cost effective, as it is distributed to large amounts of people so it gathers information quicker.
-completed without the researcher needing to be present.
-produces data easy to analyse
what is the advantage of an interview over a questionnaire?
- Flowing and participant can elaborate their answers, as face to face, better explanation
-straight forward and easy to replicate due to standardised format.
why might researcher choose to use open and closed questions?
OPEN:
-no fixed answers, free to answer anyway
-produces qualitative data
CLOSED:
-answers are easy to analyse since there’s limited options.
