Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

A

Signed after US-Mexican war in 1848. Created new political borders that required many Mexicans to leave their homes because Mexican land now belonged to the US.

Mexican Revolution

A

1910, happened because of a dictatorship, poor working conditions, and wealth gap. Caused many more Mexicans to immigrate to the US.

The bracero program

A

1942, brought Mexican workers to the US to fill up jobs left by men fighting in WW2. Americans thought they were stealing jobs. Even after the program was over, many Mexicans continued crossing the border in search of jobs

A

4-line stanzas, easy to remember and perform. Structure: salutation/prologue, story itself, moral/farewell. No set rhythm or musical style. What instruments are played depends on the region.
